Caregivers have long been the backbone of America’s family care system. In caring for family, friends and neighbors, our nation’s 53 million caregivers fulfill a vital public and personal function, often at great financial and emotional expense. The task of caregiving has always been a difficult one and the pandemic exposed critical deficiencies in how we support America’s caregivers and their loved ones. How can we support caregivers during this time of unprecedented hardship? How can expanding access to health care, innovations in technology and empathetic policy transform the lives of unpaid caregivers?
