Sister Jean Retires

Last week, Sister Jean, the beloved campus minister officially retired at age 106 from Loyola University Chicago, closing out more than six decades of service at the school

Sister Jean had many duties at Loyola Chicago, including various teaching roles, but none more famous than as the chaplain to the men’s basketball team, a role she has filled since 1994. During the Ramblers’ improbable run to the Final Four during the 2018 NCAA Tournament, cameras frequently caught Sister Jean sitting courtside and her enthusiastic support of the team became a symbol of the team’s tight-knit spirit. Though she will no longer be on the sidelines, her presence still resonates deeply in the Loyola community.

You can learn more about Sister Jean through her book, Wake Up with Purpose! What I've Learned in My First 100 Years. We’re looking forward to its sequel when she hits 110.
